Star Swirl is an extremely powerful and talented unicorn. Also bigoted and arrogant. Nevertheless, he was responsible for many advancements in the field of magic, and he was one of the heroes known as the Pillars of Equestria before he and his companions banished themselves along with the Pony of Shadows to Limbo.

Star Swirl's outdated attitudes severely rankled Prince Mark Wells and the two frequently clashed.
