PRINCESS LUNA

Luna is an alicorn and younger sister of Celestia.

Along with her sister, Luna was installed as a Princess of Equestria over a thousand years back. However, she had a history of difficulty living in her older sister's shadow and her emotional neglect. So difficult, in fact, her jealousy turned her into the villain Nightmare Moon! Fortunately, Luna was reformed and her heart softened by the ancient and powerful Elements of Harmony. Luna and Celestia forgave each other and are loving sisters once again, but Luna had trouble adjusting to modern Equestrian life after her thousand-year-long banishment in the moon. Still speaking with ancient formality and finding it hard to move beyond her once fearsome image, nevertheless she put her heart and soul into ruling Equestria alongside Celestia.

One day, Luna and her sister were called away to an emergency in another dimension. Although intending to return in a matter of days at most, their portal was destroyed and they were stranded. By the time they returned, years had passed due to the difference in the rate of time passing. They found that new ponies now ruled Equestria and Luna and her sister had forfeited the throne. Unwilling to take things at face value, Luna challenged Prince Mark Wells to a duel which he won. Luna was now satisfied that Mark was a worthy replacement.

Although reaffirmed as a minor non-ruling princess, she decides to retire. Aside from taking back responsibility for raising and lowering the moon, she now concentrates on enjoying life. She currently co-owns and runs a nightclub with Vinyl Scratch. She has an alternate universe counterpart – Luna Selene who visits her world often but they rarely interacet.

Luna also has counterparts in the anthro world and the reverse gender universe.
