SPIKE

Spike is a male dragon and currently Ponyville's librarian.

Spike was hatched from a seemingly unhatchable egg by Twilight Sparkle as a test to enter Celestia's school. Twilight was too young to care for the infant dragon, so Twilight's parents took Spike into their family. He grew up alongside Shining Armor as his brother and Twilight as his sister. He regards Twilight Velvet and Night Light as his mom and dad.

Spike's upbringing in a pony family instilled him with Equestrian values, and while he knows he's a dragon and has a dragon heritage, he has a mindset of a pony. He began to spend more time alongside Twilight Sparkle and learned alongside his adopted sister. His special ability to send objects via his magic fire breath came in handy a lot to her, and he became her unofficial scribe. Later, when Twilight was sent to Ponyville, he also became her assistant in looking after its library where they both lived.

After Twilight ascended to an alicorn, Spike remained in Ponyville to look after the library. However, the library tree was destroyed by a blast from Tirek and he had to move to Canterlot temporarily. When Twilight gained her magic castle, he moved back to Ponyville to help with the new library situated in the castle. Meanwhile, Twilight set about a long-term project of regrowing the library tree from its stump.

Spike was one of Mark Wells' first guy friends. As the years passed, Spike reached the age when his wings grew out. He originally had a crush on Rarity which he eventually outgrew, turning his interest to her younger sister Sweetie Belle instead. Being of similar age, the match was much better and Sweetie appreciated his attentions, eventually marrying him. Now, they both happily reside in the regrown library tree.
