STARLIGHT GLIMMER

Starlight is an extremely powerful unicorn mare. She first came to the attention of Prince Mark Wells and Princess Twilight Sparkle when the Map Table alerted them to a problem in a small isolated village. When they investigated, the found that the inhabitants had their cutie marks removed and replaced with "=" signs. This was apparently due to the town leader, Starlight Glimmer, and her campaign of bringing equality to all ponies. Recognizing the danger of the cult she was promoting, they confronted Starlight who forcefully removed Mark and Twilight's cutie marks, rendering them helpless. However, they were able to sow dissent by showing how Starlight did not truly wish to be equal. The discovery that she had been concealing her cutie mark rather than having had it removed caused the villagers to rebel. Starlight managed to escape their wrath after they got their marks back.

Starlight was missing for a long time until one day she turned up unexpectedly at Twilight's castle. Using a time spell from a scroll written by Star Swirl the Bearded, she took Twilight, Mark Wells, and herself back to the day when Rainbow Dash first performed her sonic rainboom. Starlight prevented that from happening and Twilight and Mark were sent back to the present to find that history had changed. They used the scroll to return to the past to try to stop Starlight, but failed multiple times before finally capturing her. After so many trips back and forth, they realized that Starlight was not changing the timeline but creating new ones instead. Mark and Twilight were forced into these or other alternate universes, and they only managed to return to their correct timeline when they succeeded in preventing Starlight from interfering with history.

Starlight was brought up on a string of charges, but before she could be convicted, the cutie map called her and Mark to solve a friendship problem. The task turned outto be about them as much as the ponies they had been called to help, and the two learned to respect each other. Afterwards, Mark offered her the position of his Advisor where she could work to truly improve the lives of ponies rather than through her misguided efforts, with the stipulation that she would also take friendship lessons with Twilight Sparkle. She served in that position until Twilight poached her for the School of Friendship to serve as assistant headmare.

Starlight played a major part in the battle against Grogar. She is currently in a relationship with Sunburst. She has counterparts in the reverse-gender universe and the anthro universe which Twilight and Mark Wells visited while fighting her time war.
