MOON DANCER

The unicorn mare, Moon Dancer, is actually a crystal changeling named Timpani.

Chosen by Queen Chrysalis to be trained as a infiltrator mage, she was positioned from a young age with mind-controlled pony foster parents whose memories were altered to believe that she was their natural child. Timpani loved her studies and grew to love her fake parents as well. A change in her supervisor and harsh treatment of her parents led her to cut ties with Chrysalis and her hive. Faking her death and her parents in a fire, they fled to Canterlot and assumed new identities. Timpani assumed the guise of Moon Dancer studied at Princess Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns where she first met Twilight Sparkle as a fellow student. Moon Dancer remained in her new form until the day of the wedding invasion by Chrysalis. She used all her abilities to protect her parents from harm, but the love blast that ejected all the changelings from Canterlot caused her to be thrown against a wall so hard that she lost consciousness and reverted to changeling form. Her parents still cared for her though and Moon Dancer loves them even more for that.

When Princess Trixie learned that Moon Dancer spent all her time studying and researching on a royal stipend, she put a halt to that and instead put her to use as Princess Twilight Sparkle's Advisor. Ironically, one of her tasks was to research ways to detect and defend against changelings.

Moon Dancer stayed undetected and cemented herself as a trusted colleague until the day of Chrysalis' second attempt at taking over Equestria. When she accidentally bumped into King Thorax, her true nature was detected by him. Fearing that her life had been ruined, she ran away but was found and convinced to tell her story. She was then recruited to help fight back against Chrysalis.

Moon Dancer remains a trusted friend of Prince Mark Wells, Princess Trixie, and Princess Twilight to this day.
